Our editorial process

Every article on HowOldIsMyBody.org is produced through a structured editorial process:

  1. 01Source identification. We identify peer-reviewed studies, systematic reviews, and clinical guidelines relevant to the topic. We prioritise high-quality sources: randomised controlled trials, meta-analyses, and guidelines from bodies such as NICE, the NHS, and the British Medical Association.
  2. 02Data extraction and synthesis. Relevant data, statistics, and clinical thresholds are extracted directly from primary sources. Population averages, age-referenced ranges, and risk figures are taken from published studies โ€” we do not extrapolate or estimate where primary data exists.
  3. 03Plain-language writing. Content is written to make complex clinical information accessible to a general audience, without oversimplifying the science or omitting important caveats.
  4. 04Accuracy review. Each article is reviewed against its cited sources before publication to ensure claims are correctly represented. Statistical figures are cross-referenced where possible.
  5. 05Ongoing updates. Health guidelines and population data are updated periodically. Pages are reviewed when new guidance is issued by NICE, the NHS, or major clinical bodies.
